Navigation experts at TomTom are Pachinko Angelmaking cars chattier with the help of Microsoft's Azure OpenAI.

The company will talk about the new experiences during a session at Microsoft's Build conference Wednesday.

Modern cars often do have some form of a voice assistant present, but TomTom is talking about a far smarter, AI-based assistant that can engage the driver in a natural conversation, as well as handle complex driver requests.

Azure OpenAI provides API access to OpenAI's language models such as GPT-4, allowing companies like TomTom to leverage GPT-4's smarts in various scenarios.

The two companies first announced this partnership in Dec. 2023, with a TomTom rep saying the company's vision is to "transform the in-vehicle experience, enabling drivers to ask their car for anything and trust it will deliver."
